The NewEcoSmart project is nearing the launch of its innovative toolkit aimed at enhancing green and digital competencies among rural populations, with a particular focus on individuals over 45. Developed through a collaborative initiative, this toolkit aims to bridge the digital gap and promote sustainable practices within the Habitat sector, thereby fostering economic growth and social inclusion in rural communities across Portugal, Italy, and Spain.
Addressing both immediate and long-term needs, the NewEcoSmart project focuses on addressing skill gaps in areas such as communication, Industry 4.0 technologies, and basic green and sustainable practices. According to comprehensive analyses conducted for the project, workers in rural areas demonstrate proficiency in resource efficiency and environmental laws, but there are significant gaps in CO2 emissions management and circular business models. Digital skills, especially in communication and safety, are notably deficient among this demographic, underscoring the critical need for targeted educational resources.
The NewEcoSmart toolkit integrates a diverse range of educational tools, including a MOOC platform developed using Opigno technology and a gamification app for microlearning, available in English, Portuguese, Italian, and Spanish. Supplementing these core resources are additional tools covering essential knowledge across digital, green, and soft skills domains. Each country benefits from access to these tools in its official language, ensuring comprehensive support for green, digital, and soft skills development.
