NewEcoSmart Stakeholders Spanish Roundtable: Fostering Social Innovation and Circular Economy in Murcia

On 11 February 2025, the NewEcoSmart (NES) Stakeholders Spanish Roundtable took place at the Moneo Building in Murcia, under the theme “Construyendo un Futuro Sostenible: Mesa Redonda sobre la Innovación Social y la Economía Circular en Murcia” (“Building a Sustainable Future: Roundtable on Social Innovation and Circular Economy in Murcia”). The event, organized with the support of the Ayuntamiento de Murcia and CETEM (Technological Centre of Furniture and Wood of the Region of Murcia), brought together 21 stakeholders, including social organizations, policymakers, SMEs and technical experts.

The primary goal of the roundtable was to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to social innovation and Circular Economy in the region, while identifying how the NES project can contribute to achieving long-term, sustainable change. Discussions were centred around practical solutions to regional challenges, such as raising awareness about Circular Economy practices, supporting SMEs in adopting sustainable practices and leveraging digital technologies to drive sustainability.

Key participants included representatives from the Ayuntamiento de Murcia, MIW Energy, ASTRAPACE, CERMI and COAMU, all contributing valuable insights from their respective sectors. The event underscored the need for cross-sector collaboration to drive effective change, with stakeholders from public institutions, private companies and social organizations working together to address the region’s sustainability needs.

A major highlight of the roundtable was the appointment of MIWenergía as NES Community Ambassador for the Murcia region. They will play a crucial role in advocating for the NES project, raising awareness and fostering collaboration between local stakeholders to ensure the integration of NES results into regional policies and strategies.

The roundtable concluded with a renewed sense of commitment to advancing social innovation and Circular Economy practices, with participants eager to continue collaborating and exploring further opportunities for funding and support. The event marked a significant step towards building a sustainable and inclusive future for the Murcia region, positioning the NES project as a key driver of positive change.
