International Workshop to Discuss Social Innovation and the “Twin Transition” in Rural Europe

NewEcoSmart project is organising the online workshop “Social Innovation and Twin Transition in Rural Areas: Perspectives from Europe” on 21 June 2024 at 11:30 CEST.

This event aims to present successful approaches to Europe’s “twin transition” – the shift to a greener and more digital society – in rural communities. The workshop will showcase the results of the NewEcoSmart project, which focuses on empowering adults aged 45 and over in rural areas through social innovation, and discuss the challenges related to the twin transition and those faced in European rural areas.

To enrich the discussion, besides the focus on NES results, we invited Afonso Duarte, a biophysics PhD and former research scientist, who now works at the Portuguese National Innovation Agency (ANI) as Delegate and National Contact Point for Horizonte Europe (Cluster Digital, Industry and Space) with a special focus to the Digital area, and is going to share his knowledge about the digital transitions challenges. And Pascale Van Doren, Team Leader of the Rural Pact Support Office, with a vast background working in university research, consulting for public decision-making and coordination of several European projects and networks, who is going to discuss the role of Rural Pact in addressing the challenges related to the twin transition in rural areas.
